Cascading Air from Office to Lab Modules

News_scr-NIDUS-D5.jpg In addition to the lab modules, designers need to consider the related office and support components. At the Nidus Center and a recent lab project for Eli Lilly and Company, William Tao & Associates saved energy by integrating the different systems based on the concept of “cascading.” Cascading transfers all the office return air to the labs for makeup of exhaust.

“Cascading uses the office air twice,” explains President Rich Janis, “reducing the amount of conditioning required for the overall outside air quantity needed in the labs.” Cascading air through the building also helps ensure proper pressure relationships for safety and odor control.
