A Duo of LEED™ Contenders

News_scr-TIVAUST-AX6.jpg The Houston architectural group is in the process of pursuing LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the Tivoli Systems, Inc. Austin Campus in Texas and Homestead Air Reserve Station in Florida.

 

Arming the Forces

The Houston Visual Communications Group is assisting the U.S. Air Force with establishing a website that includes the sustainable development guidelines and tools for project managers. As part of this same program the HOK Visual Communications Group is managing the development of a sustainable training course for the Air Force.

 

Greengineering

The Houston structural and MEP groups are involved with seven projects that follow strictest sustainable guidelines.

 

Green Jam

News_ACF2064.jpg Interior Designer Andrea Moeder attended the EnvironDesign6 sustainability conference in Seattle. Following the conference, she joined Allen Schaffer and Tim Gaidis, of HOK St. Louis, for a jam session in front of 10,000 screaming virtual fans (and a camera) at Frank Gehry’s Experience Music Project in Seattle.

  • Senior Interior Designer Loretta Fulvio and Senior Design Technician Kathrin Brunner are involved with the founding and set up of a Houston U.S. Green Building Council Chapter.

  • The Houston Green Team has met and outlined a lunch-and-learn strategy that involves all disciplines. The office has hosted 10 brown bag lunches and seminars related to sustainable design since January 2002. HOK Sustainable Design Principal Bill Odell presented case studies and sustainable design principles to the Houston office during two sessions.

  • Houston’s IT team has implemented a direction for all employees to turn off their computer monitors while away from the office. All new IT purchases are made with sustainable principles in mind.

  • The HOK materials fair has set up shop at the Houston office, and internal and client orientation sessions are currently taking place.
