Checklist for Interiors

News_Simon_Bone.bmp Interior Designer Simon Bone contributed an article on sustainable guidelines for interior designers in the second issue of Intra magazine. In the article, he provides a useful sustainability checklist for interior designers and specifiers, explaining how to maintain environmentally responsible good practice while working abroad.

“An increasing number of our clients are expanding throughout Europe, requiring us to carry out interior design projects further afield,” Bone says. “I am currently here in Amsterdam working on a new office for internet software provider PeopleSoft and will be carrying out similar jobs in Brussels, Munich and Madrid. Working in a new city and lacking of knowledge of local suppliers can make it difficult to maintain environmentally responsible good practice. To tackle this I have developed five simple checkpoints for designers and product specifiers to bear in mind.”

This checklist includes:

  1. Source renewable materials.
  2. Design for disassembly.
  3. Single material composition.
  4. Use recycled material.
  5. Reduce waste.
