City Greening

News_ACF1E4.jpg The San Francisco office earned a contract from the city of San Francisco to provide sustainable design consulting for a broad range of projects, including design guidelines and a visionary long-term plan for integrating renewable energy and distributed power generation in the city. The HOK team includes ARUP, Lynn Simon and Associates, XENERGY, and O'Roarke Public Relations and Advertising.

 

Reaching Out

HOK has been actively helping to form a San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. Sustainable Design Principal Sandy Mendler is chairing the Research Committee, and Director of Business Development Peggy Chiang is co-chair of the Membership Committee. Other HOKers that have been volunteering their time include Project Manager Thom Burnham and Marketing Coordinator Aracely Coronado.

  • Sandy’s career and impact on green design was the topic of an eight-page cover story in the Spring 2002 issue of The EnvironDesign Journal, published by Interiors & Sources magazine. "It's hard to imagine the state of green design where it is today without Sandy Mendler, AIA,” said Editor Penny Bonda, FASID. “Practitioners who have been at it a while readily and gratefully concede the enormous contributions she has made in defining, clarifying and promoting sustainable design principles. …She has raised our consciousness while giving us tools with which to tackle this sometimes-difficult discipline."

  • Sandy authored an article titled "Adding Value through the Design Process" for the Winter 2002 issue of Perspective magazine, published by the International Interior Design Association.

  • She recently shared her expertise with the following professional organizations: Women's Energy Forum; San Francisco chapter of Corenet; and Silicon Valley chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW).

  • Chief Engineer Richard Miller gave a presentation at the Pacific Energy Center titled "Hello DALI! A Specifier's View of Digital Addressable Lighting Interface."
