New Health Sciences Facility for the University of Alberta
15 August 2006

The Edmonton Clinic will be designed to LEED® Silver standard. As Prime Consultant, HOK will be the architects and interior designers.

"This is the first major re-think of Canada's healthcare education model since 1969, and we are proud to be partner with organizations that are working to make strides in this area," comments Gordon Stratford, Senior Vice President at HOK in Canada. "With our experience and history in healthcare facility design, we look forward to being part of this new wave of health education and management that is sure to shape the way our country moves forward in its approach to meeting the changing needs of our healthcare system."

The University of Alberta and the Capital Health Region of Edmonton have jointly created a new program which includes not only the education of physicians, but also that of nurses, pharmacists, dentists, researchers, allied and community workers into one amazingly cooperative and collaborative program. The Edmonton Clinic will bring together 1,000 University of Alberta students from all health sciences facilities.

"When teachers and clinicians pool their resources across a number of boundaries, those boundaries themselves will disappear," comments University of Alberta President Indira Samarasekera. "The team-based approach to teaching will give our students access to the latest healthcare developments and will greatly strengthen our ability to meet the province's need for highly educated healthcare professionals."
